My Story

My “morning nose” began in my preteens. This was my term for the first hour or two of the day which consisted of constant nose blowing and sneezing. As time passed, these symptoms began taking up more and more of my day. By my twenties I was not only sniffling and sneezing all day, the symptoms were even worse at night, and I couldn’t sleep without taking a decongestant before bed. Even then I knew that taking medication every night couldn’t possibly be good for me, but I felt there was no choice. I needed sleep!

Over the years I saw several Primary Care Physicians, Ear, Nose and Throat Specialists, and Allergists, but received no solid answers. While my nighttime symptoms eased up a little bit over the years, the daytime symptoms did not. In my mid-forties, after catching a cold with a cough that would not go away, I was diagnosed with asthma. Inhalers were prescribed, and I was told I would need to use these for the rest of my life. I was certainly not pleased with this situation, and didn’t understand how I could develop asthma “out of the blue”.

Unfortunately, the decongestants and inhalers were only treating my symptoms, not getting to the root cause of them. This was when my journey into Health Coaching and Functional Medicine began. I now know that the asthma did not appear out of the blue, it was a natural progression from the years of inflammation my body had been dealing with. By finally addressing the root cause of my symptoms I was able to find natural solutions to my inflammatory reactions. Being free of chronic symptoms has been completely liberating!

While the symptoms of my inflammation were allergic reaction and asthma, this same inflammation, most often beginning in the gut, can cause numerous other symptoms such as joint pain, “brain fog”, eczema, weight gain, and depression to name a few. Our gut houses the majority of our immune system, so it is logical that many symptoms find their roots there.

Whether it is microbial imbalances, detoxification issues, nutrient deficiencies, food sensitivities, excessive toxic exposure, or other reasons, I will work with you to find and address the source of your health issues. Step into a new world of health and vitality!

As you can probably tell by now, my approach is about working with you to overcome the obstacles holding you back, discover the true root causes of your unique body’s dis-ease, then appropriately support the body in its natural healing process.

I will work with you to create a happy and healthy life in a way that is sustainable, fun, and rewarding; supporting you to make gradual, lifelong changes that enable you to reach your current and future health goals.

My training and credentials: I attended the Institute for Integrative Nutrition and am a Certified Health Coach. I have also received additional training from Wildly Successful Health Coaches, which teaches scientifically based Functional Medicine courses, in order to help my clients experience lasting relief. I also lead group workshops on a wide variety of health topics, inspiring participants to make lasting positive changes in their lives. I am a contributing author for betterafter50.com and the author of “By a Thread: 21 Tips on Resilience for the Partially Unraveled”.
